How it works
A calmer version of each site, and a way to stop yourself opening the real app.
Instagram, YouTube, X, Reddit, LinkedIn and Facebook with the parts built to keep you scrolling hidden: Reels, Shorts, Explore, For You, suggested posts and ads. DMs, stories, profiles, search and posting stay.
The real apps open to a block screen on your schedule, using Apple's Screen Time. Works for TikTok and any other app too. Notifications still arrive, and a link someone sends you opens in FeedOff with one copy.
Each platform as a Home Screen or Lock Screen widget, one tap from where the real icon used to be.

What stays, what goes
Every one of these is a toggle in Settings. Want Explore back? Flip it. Choose up to four platforms as tabs.
Privacy
There's no FeedOff account and no FeedOff server. You log in to Instagram and YouTube directly, on their own sites, inside Apple's standard web view. Your password goes to them, the same way it would in Safari. FeedOff can't read it and doesn't store it.
The only thing FeedOff downloads is a small text file of filter rules, which buttons and feeds to hide. It's public on GitHub, and you can read every line of it.
When you set up the Shield, Apple hands FeedOff an anonymous token for each app you pick, never the app's name or your usage. That's how Screen Time is built.
// rules.json — the one file FeedOff downloads { "instagram": { "redirects": [{ "match": "^/reels", "to": "/" }], "toggles": { "reels": { "css": ["a[href='/reels/']"] }, "explore": { "css": ["a[href='/explore/']"] }, "suggested": { "hideIfText": ["Suggested for you"] } } } }
FAQ
Because the core of it is a small app and a text file of rules, and running it costs almost nothing. There's no subscription and no in-app purchase. If that ever changes, the parts you use today stay free.
Only when you want it to. The Shield blocks the real apps on a schedule you set, or all the time, or never. The versions inside FeedOff always stay open.
Yes. DMs, stories, profiles, search and posting all work. It's the real Instagram site with the feed parts hidden.
Copy the link, then open FeedOff. A card at the top of Home says "Open the link you copied"; tap it and the post opens in the right tab, without the feed. Works for Instagram, YouTube, X, Reddit, LinkedIn and Facebook links from Messages, WhatsApp, email, anywhere.
Yes, if you keep the real app installed. Shielded apps still deliver notifications; they just open to a block screen. Tap the FeedOff widget to answer.
Yes. FeedOff for Chrome does the same for YouTube and X on the desktop: no Shorts, no Home feed, no For You, no trends, no ads. Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn and Facebook are next. Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc.
FeedOff shows Instagram's public website in a standard web view and hides parts of the page on your phone, the way a content blocker does. It uses no private access, stores no credentials and collects no data. Apps have shipped this way on the App Store for years.
Yes. In Settings, under Instagram, turn on "Hide the whole feed". Home keeps only your stories tray. DMs, your profile, stories and posting still work, and no post from anyone shows.
No. FeedOff is a separate browser, so the first time you sign in Instagram sends its usual "new login from an unrecognised device" alert, the same as signing in from a new laptop. Your password goes to instagram.com only. FeedOff has no account and no server, and the App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected".
Google blocks "Sign in with Google" inside apps like FeedOff, so on YouTube use the email-and-password form rather than the Google button. On Instagram, "Continue with Facebook" sometimes fails; signing in with your username and password works. If you're stuck, email [email protected].
FeedOff has its own login, separate from the Instagram app. You log in once; FeedOff keeps you signed in after that. Instagram may ask for a one-time code the first time, as it does for any new browser.
The Shield blocks the TikTok app like any other. There's no calm version of TikTok because its website is the For You feed and nothing else, so there would be nothing left to show.
Not yet. Android already has good free Reels blockers built on the Accessibility service. If enough people ask, we'll build one that reads the same rules file.
The rules file updates without an app update, usually within a day. A nightly check watches for broken rules, and because the rules are public anyone can send a fix.
