Chrome Web Store listing is in review. Until it clears, install from the zip below. Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc.

Install from the zip (two minutes)

  1. Download feedoff-chrome.zip and unzip it somewhere you'll keep it, like your Documents folder.
  2. Open chrome://extensions in a new tab and turn on Developer mode (top right).
  3. Click Load unpacked and pick the unzipped feedoff-chrome folder.
  4. Open YouTube. Home sends you to Subscriptions and Shorts are gone. Click the FeedOff icon in the toolbar to change what's hidden.

When the Web Store listing is live, this page will link to it and the manual install can be removed.

What it hides

YouTube

Hidden: Shorts (sidebar entry, shelves, search results), the Home feed (Home opens Subscriptions), ads in feeds and search, video ads skipped as soon as the player allows. Autoplay stays off.

Stays: Subscriptions, search, playlists, history, comments and Up next (both optional to hide).

X

Hidden: the For You tab (Home opens on Following), trends and Who to follow in the right column and on Explore, promoted posts, Grok, Communities, Premium and Jobs.

Stays: Following, search, notifications, messages, profiles, bookmarks and lists.

Every one of these is a toggle in the popup. Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn and Facebook are next; they already work in the iPhone app.

Privacy

The extension runs on youtube.com and x.com only. It hides parts of the page in your browser and nothing leaves your computer except a once-an-hour download of the filter rules from feedoff.app, which carries no identifier. No account, no analytics, no tracking. The privacy policy covers the extension and the app.

Something slipped through?

Sites change their layout often. Click the FeedOff icon on the page where it happened and press Copy filter report, then paste it into an email to [email protected]. The report has page structure only: no posts, names or links. Fixes ship as rule updates, usually within a day, with no extension update needed.
